THE WORLD PRESS FREEDOM DAY #JKinspreschannelNEWS
Every 3rd of MAY, has been earmarked by UNESCO as WORLD PRESS FREEDOM DAY across the globe. With this year's being 25th celebration was jointly organized by UNESCO and the government of the republic of Ghana 🇬🇭, playing the host for this year's conference, which will cover issues of media & the transparency of the political process and media literacy of the judicial system.
This year celebration of the world journalists was themed: KEEPING POWER IN CHECK ; media, justice & the rule of law.
According to Christiane Amanpour of CNN ,while commenting on this year's world press freedom day, said "There's a lot to be concerned about, over the current climate of press freedom, but I do have hope. "
"As a journalist for nearly 35years at CNN, I've worked with hundreds of other reporters. And one thing I know is that everyone in this profession possess a tenacity & fearlessness that can't be taught. "
Using what happened in Kabul Afghanistan on Monday 1st of may, 2018 as a case study, where over seven journalists were among the numbers died from a bomb blast. She further said "Despite the horror of what happened in Kabul & ever tightening censorship on press all over the globe, I know, Journalist everywhere will continue to pick up their gear, go out and cover the important stories. This is something to be both celebrated & protected on this world press freedom day " those were the words of Amanpour.
Reporters without Borders, made her own contribution with her just released annual world press freedom index. It shows both the United kingdom and United states of America slid in their levels of press freedom,putting them behind countries like 🇬🇭, Slovakia 🇸🇰, Uruguay 🇺🇾.
Press are the eyes of the masses and the amplifier of the voices of ordinary citizens, thus let's all give our voice to Press freedom. ©JKinspireschannelNEWS
